Headed South: Birding in Florida

I am, unfortunately, a bit of a procrastinator, and it's high time that I write about my trip to Florida. I made the drive down with Taylor to visit my sister Kati, my nephew Dylan, and to meet my niece Lily! I also had the chance to reunite with my grandma, my aunts, and one of my cousins. It was a great trip

Birding New Hampshire: The Desolation Loop

Last Thursday, September 3rd and my 27th birthday, I embarked on a trip to the White Mountain National Forest for a long weekend of backpacking (and birding, of course!). I've been planning this trip with my friend Pat for some time, so I was immensely excited for the journey to finally be underway! I drove up to Cleveland

Two new shorebirds at Wilderness Road!

I've been falling behind on my blogging, so this will be the first of two pending posts. This is to give an update of Sunday August 30th, and two life birds for me! I have to start this post with August 29th, when went up to visit my family who had a birthday celebration for me. It was a few days early since I'd be on the road to New Hampshire on my real birthday (another coming post!). On the way up, I stopped at the

Birding in the Monongahela

The weekend of August 14 I met up with some friends in the Monongahela National Forest of West Virginia. They were all able to take Friday off and spend an extra day backpacking and camping. That meant that I would spend Friday

Birding at the Beach

I had some time on Saturday to go birding, so I decided to look for a bird that was reported just north of Columbus. The bird in question

Edge of Appalachia Preserve

Yesterday I went with two other Columbus birders to the Edge of Appalachia Preserve in southern Ohio. This 18,000 acre preserve is maintained by the Nature Conservancy and is an excellent place to see

Baby Turkeys at Blendon Woods

We've been receiving more than our fair share of rain here in Central Ohio, so when the clouds broke yesterday I made sure to get outside. I decided to visit Blendon Woods Metro Park after work

A Nemesis Bird at the Ohio Bird Sanctuary

Life bird #327, as you can see in the sidebar, was an Alder Flycatcher that I managed to spot yesterday in Richland County, Ohio. I took a trip to the Ohio Bird Sanctuary after a friend advised that the birds appeared to be

Bobolinks at Glacier Ridge

I had some time on Sunday to visit Glacier Ridge Metro Park northwest of Columbus. This is one of a few parks in the Columbus area that has made efforts to restore the prairie environment that was historically found in Central Ohio. This park is notable for several things, but the one I was focused on was the Bobolinks.

Michigan Birding Blitz!

Alright, I need to recap a very busy weekend! Friday, Saturday, and Sunday I was in Michigan with the Columbus Audubon's Avid Birders to tour the reconstructed breeding grounds of the endangered Kirtland's Warbler. We made several stops along the way to check out a number of the best birding sites in Michigan's lower peninsula, a region I've never spent time in. I picked up three life birds, one every day, and I got to see a very unique part of the county.

Lunchtime discovery at Kiwanis Riverway Park

This is a good location to include in an early post. The park is within 15 minutes of my workplace, so I visit it regularly throughout the week. You can see from the map that it's located on the bank of the Scioto River. It's small, but it has a good mix of habitats. In addition, the nearby offices have bird feeders.

First Post

Hello! I've had the idea for this blog for awhile, so I'm excited to finally get it going. I wanted a place where I could share my birding stories without overwhelming my Facebook friends. I use eBird to log my sightings, but it's a data-driven, just-the-facts type of log that also has the disadvantage of having no easy way to follow an individual. So, I'll try to update this site with some of the photos, videos, and stories that don't make it onto any other platform. If there's anything that you're curious about, contact me so that I can either answer or add to this blog. Thanks for reading!
