A Nemesis Bird at the Ohio Bird Sanctuary

Life bird #327, as you can see in the sidebar, was an Alder Flycatcher that I managed to spot yesterday in Richland County, Ohio. I took a trip to the Ohio Bird Sanctuary after a friend advised that the birds appeared to be

Bobolinks at Glacier Ridge

I had some time on Sunday to visit Glacier Ridge Metro Park northwest of Columbus. This is one of a few parks in the Columbus area that has made efforts to restore the prairie environment that was historically found in Central Ohio. This park is notable for several things, but the one I was focused on was the Bobolinks.

Michigan Birding Blitz!

Alright, I need to recap a very busy weekend! Friday, Saturday, and Sunday I was in Michigan with the Columbus Audubon's Avid Birders to tour the reconstructed breeding grounds of the endangered Kirtland's Warbler. We made several stops along the way to check out a number of the best birding sites in Michigan's lower peninsula, a region I've never spent time in. I picked up three life birds, one every day, and I got to see a very unique part of the county.

Lunchtime discovery at Kiwanis Riverway Park

This is a good location to include in an early post. The park is within 15 minutes of my workplace, so I visit it regularly throughout the week. You can see from the map that it's located on the bank of the Scioto River. It's small, but it has a good mix of habitats. In addition, the nearby offices have bird feeders.

First Post

Hello! I've had the idea for this blog for awhile, so I'm excited to finally get it going. I wanted a place where I could share my birding stories without overwhelming my Facebook friends. I use eBird to log my sightings, but it's a data-driven, just-the-facts type of log that also has the disadvantage of having no easy way to follow an individual. So, I'll try to update this site with some of the photos, videos, and stories that don't make it onto any other platform. If there's anything that you're curious about, contact me so that I can either answer or add to this blog. Thanks for reading!
